Stimulus Checks: Who will receive IRS payment in February 2025?
The IRS will be distributing $2.4 billion to taxpayers who did not claim the refund credit on their 2021 tax return
MIAMI.- This year, at least one million eligible citizens will be able to receive the deposit of the stimulus checks delivered by the Internal Revenue Service ( IRS ) to taxpayers who did not receive their stimulus payments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The IRS will be distributing at least $2.4 billion to taxpayers who did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax return in February 2025 .
The rebate credit is a benefit aimed at those citizens who did not receive the Economic Impact Payments (EIP), also called stimulus payments, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"As we reviewed our internal data, we found that one million taxpayers failed to claim this complex credit when they were actually eligible to do so," IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said in a statement announcing the Trump administration's decision to correct omissions on 2021 tax returns.
Who will receive stimulus checks in 2025??
The stimulus payments that the IRS will issue in February 2025 will be sent to taxpayers who filed a 2021 tax return but did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit or filled out the data field as $0 when they were actually eligible to receive it.
The amount of the stimulus checks will vary, depending on each taxpayer's declaration, and will reach the maximum payment of $1,400 per person .
How to receive payment from the IRS
Those who have not yet received the payment should just wait. The benefit will be automatically deposited, without the need for taxpayers to complete additional procedures, into the bank account registered in their 2023 return or will be sent as a paper check to the address registered with the IRS.
"To minimize headaches and get this money to eligible taxpayers, we are making these payments automatic, meaning these individuals will not be required to go through the lengthy process of filing an amended return to receive it," the IRS commissioner said.
Additionally, those who have not yet filed their 2021 tax return still have a chance to receive the stimulus payment. Taxpayers only need to file their tax return and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit before the deadline of April 15, 2025. This is regardless of whether their income from work, business, or another source was minimal or nonexistent, the IRS added.
